William L. Fenimore, brother of Aaron Fenimore, was born in 1829 at Union Township, Ross County, Ohio. His parents were Ebeneezer Ross Fenimore and the former Nancy H. Mowbray. The 1860 Census shows him living in Union Township, Ross County, Ohio with his wife, Rebecca Ann Corey and his son, John W (age 7), and daughter, Mary E. (age 4).
On November 1, 1861, he enlisted in Captain Taylor's Company E, 18th Ohio Volunteer Infantry which was then at Camp Dennison, Cincinnati, Ohio. He was involved in all the campaigning of 1862 that culminated in the Battle of Stones River on December 31, 1862. He was wounded and spent much of the next several months in the hospital before finally succumbing to his wounds on April 23, 1863. His body was returned to Ohio and was buried in the Baptist Cemetery, Frankfort, Ross County, Ohio.
