A. W. Ullom Passes Away At Home Here

Aged and Respected Resident Dies Saturday Evening: Funeral Monday Afternoon

Andrew W. Ullom, aged 91 years, died at 6:30 o'clock Saturday evening (September 29, 1933) at the family home,
40 North College St, following a period of failing health resulting from heart trouble. Funeral services will be held at the home at 2;30 o'clock Monday afternoon and burial will be made in the West Union Street at Athens.

Born at McArthur, July 31, 1842, Mr. Ullom was successful and respected building contractor and business man. He spent his youth in McArthur, which was in Athens County at the time of his birth. In August, 1861, he enlisted in Company B, Eighteenth Ohio Volunteer Infantry and for three years served with this famous fighting regiment in the Union Army, taking part in a number of severe battles and campaigns in the South.

He was married to Eleanor Jane Tucker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Josephus Tucker, of Athens, December 30, 1874. Their marriage took place in the Tucker home which occupied the site where the present Ullom home stands at the corner of State and College Streets. Mrs. Ullom died 39 years ago. Six children were born to them, all of whom are living: Mrs. D. H. Thomas, Marietta; Dr. Josephus T. Ullom, Germantown, Pa; Mrs. H. G. Stalder, at home; Mrs. Frank Chester, Columbus; Mrs. Robert F. Bishop, Columbus; and Mrs. Don C. Coultrap, Columbus. Eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild are also left.

In recent years, Mrs. Chester and Mrs. Stalder lived in the family home with their father, Mr. and Mrs. Chester, Mrs. Thomas and Mrs. Stalder were with him at the time of his death. Of the family of nine children of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Ullom, he was the last survivor.
